GLEN MOFFATT
GUITAR AND VOCALS
The Eagles had ‘already gone’ by the time pre-teen Glen Moffatt became aware of them in the early 1980s, but growing up in provincial New Zealand it was impossible to escape the band’s legacy. Their songs were commonplace in the talent quests Glen’s parents were driving him to all over the North Island.
When Glen started writing songs and moved to Auckland in the 1990s, a drummer friend brought Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh to Glen’s band’s residency at a late-night club. After sitting in with a romp through “Lawdy Miss Clawdy”, Walsh treated the audience to a solo piano version of “Desperado”.
Glen released three CDs in New Zealand and was a finalist in the recording industry’s songwriter of the year for his song “Somewhere in New Zealand Tonight” before relocating to Brisbane in 2002, where he has raised a family and played all over South-East Queensland with the Tallboys and the Smokin’ Crawdads.
His first Australian album is due for release in 2014, including songs co-written with Bill Chambers and Dragon’s Kerry Jacobson.
